Sharon gives his forces the liberty of striking the Palestinians
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 6/22/2001
The Israeli occupation forces on Thursday tightened its siege on the Palestinian territories and the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon gave these forces the right to strike the Palestinians, claiming that this is Israel's natural right and renewed his vow to protect the settlements and the freedom of movement for the settlers.
To this effect, Israeli ministers and members of parliament asked for launching a comprehensive war against the Palestinians in various areas of the West Bank and Gaza. In coordination with the Israeli forces, the Israeli settlers attacked several palestinian villages in the areas of Nablus, al-Khali, and Ramullah and erected barriers on the roads and prevented the Palestinians from going to their works.
One of the Israeli settlers Zaef Brenski said they will chase the Palestinians wherever they do exist The Israeli minister of the interior Elei Yashei called on the government to implement the settlement schemes approved earlier and to implement it very soon.
The coordinator of the Israeli affairs in the occupied territories Gen. Yaqoub Mandalov stressed that the Israeli government is doing its best to back and encourage the settlers to go and settle in the West Bank and Gaza.
In a statement to the Israeli radio he said that the Israeli settlers carry out a military role and he declares that as a result the main task of the Israeli army is to coordinate with the settlers and protect them.
Meantime, the Israeli ambassador in Washington Zalman Shoufal ruled out that the US administration will practice any pressure on the Israeli government towards continuing its attacks and measures against the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza.
In an interview with the Israeli radio Shoufal said that the administration of the US President George Bush understands the Israeli demands in various areas especially in regard to the Israeli position on the need of not re-deploying of the Israeli army according to the "Tenet document" only after making sure that the Palestinian authorities would have arrested activists of the Palestinian Intifada and gathered all weapons and explosives the Palestinians have.
