Bin Aleazer visits Turkey next month
Turkey-Israel, Politics, 6/22/2001

An israeli diplomat asked not to be identified said that the Israeli minister of defense Benjamin Bin Aleazer will head for Ankara in July to consolidate the firm cooperation between the two allied countries, noting that this visit is presumed to be held on the 9th of July.

He explained that the Israeli army chief of staff Shaoul Moufaz will not accompany Bin Aleazer because of the current state of tension between the Israelis and the Palestinians.

Gen. Moufaz had postponed two visits to Turkey during the few past months for the same reason.

Bin Aleazer visit comes following joint military exercises between the Israeli, Turkish and American forces started in Monday in the province of Qunia ( in the heart of Turkey) and these exercises are supposed to continue until June 29, according to the Turkish army sources.

Worthy mentioning that Turkey is Israel's main alley in the region since 1996 when a military cooperation agreement was signed between them. A matter which provoked the anger of the majority of the Arab states in the Middle East as well as Iran.

On the other hand, the director general of the Israeli foreign ministry Afe Jeil met on Wednesday with Turkish officials in Ankara in the framework of the of the political talks carried out twice annually between Turkey and Israel.
