On the question of Ghoushe
Jordan, Politics, 6/21/2001

The Jordanian minister of information Saleh al-Qalab has expected that the few coming hours will witness developments that will result in a detente and a solution for the question of Ibrahim Ghoushe, the spokesman for the hamas movement, who has been held for many days at the Amman's international airport.

In a statement to the Lebanese daily Assafir issued on Wednesday, al-Qallab stressed his country's rejection that his country will be converted to an alternative country for the Palestinians and accused several officials from Qatar of creating problems by sending Ghoushe to Jordan.

The Jordanian minister of information indicated that what had happened in Lebanon in 1982 should not be repeated in any other Arab state.

Meantime, The Hamas movement has expressed its concern over the deteriorated health conditions of Ibrahim Ghoushe who has been held by the Jordanian authorities in Amman in inhuman conditions for the 6th running days and are persistent to prevent him from entering his country, Jordan.

An official source in Hamas said in a press statement in Gaza on Wednesday that Ghoushe ( 65 year old ) suffers high blood pressure and other diseases. A matter which requires a continued health care for him, noting that the continued arrest of Ghoushe and refusal to admit him to the hospital might inflict a danger on his health and life.

The statement held the Jordanian government and its security department fully responsible for the health and life and security of Ghoushe and called for Ghoushe's prompt release and enabling him to get into Jordan.
