Attempts to resume a solution in Sudan

The Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Maher on Wednesday received the Sudanese former prime minister and chairman of the Sudanese Ummah council al-Sadeq al-Mahdi.

Following the meeting, al-Mahdi said that he offered congratulations to Ahmad Maher on the occasion of assuming his new post as a foreign minister in Egypt.

He added he has briefed the Egyptian foreign minister about the results of his visit recently made to the US, especially in regard to the US role in the cause of Sudan.

Al-Mahdi stressed his support to exerting decisive and just efforts to meet the ambitions of the Sudanese people to maintain a just political solution.

Replying to a question on whether he sees in the Egyptian- Libyan initiative as a corner stone in the settlement in Sudan, he commented that this initiative is a good framework especially its proposal on convening the overall forum, and called for reactivating this very initiative.
