Iraq-Turkey, Economics, 6/21/2001
An official woman at the Turkish ( 13 F) company for flights said on Wednesday that the company will organize two trade flights between Istanbul and Baghdad this month, after the consent of the UN, and these flights will be organized regularly if it will prove a success.
The official explained that the company will rent the planes from the Turkish airlines, adding " we would like to know first whether these flights are commercially useful."
She continued that the Turkish authorities got a prior consent from the UN to organize two experimental flights on June 22 and 29.
Worthy mentioning that all air flights from, to Baghdad were suspended after imposing the UN sanctions on Iraq because of its invasion of Kuwait in August 1990. In May, Turkey started first trips by train to Iraq following a suspension of train trips of 19 years.
