Beit Al-Mal Al Quds meets next week in Rabat
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 6/19/2001
Moroccan foreign affairs and cooperation minister, Mohammed Benaissa, announced on Monday that Bait Mal Al Quds will meet next week in Rabat to look into means to increase its funds.
Bait Mal Al Quds is a fund set up in 1995 by Al-Quds committee, an offshoot of the Organization of Islamic Conference, to raise funds for the protection of the Arab-Islamic identity of the city.
Benaissa, who took part in the Arab follow-up committee meeting in Amman, also regretted that some Islamic countries have not lived up to their commitment to allocate funds for the institution. He also hoped that next week's meeting will avail the opportunity to debate the fund's initiatives to defend the city against Jewish attempts to obliterate its Arab and Islamic identity.
The Amman meeting brought together foreign ministers of Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia, Jordan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Bahrain and Palestine, in addition to Palestine president Yasser Arafat.
Benaissa said the committee renewed that the cease-fire stipulates the total withdrawal of Israeli troops from the occupied Palestinian territories, as well as from Lebanese and Syrian territories it is occupying. The committee also insisted on the need to extend further support to the Palestinian authority, through the two funds set up by Arab heads of state and called Arab countries to pay their financial commitments to the two funds.
