Sudan calls for reviving the common defense agreement with Egypt

The Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman Ismael has announced that Egypt and Libya agreed to deploy forces on the Sudanese- Ugandan borders in order to make sure that no more support is given to the Sudanese rebellion led by John Garang and Lord Movement led by Joseph Koni. He called for reviving the joint agreement between al-Khartoum and Cairo.
Ismael said that he had told the Egyptian foreign minister Ahmad Maher and the secretary of the African unity organization in Libya Abdul Salaam al-Tureiki in a meeting recently held in Tripoli about the content of the Sudanese- Ugandan agreement which stated to maintain diplomatic representation exchange at the level of the charge de affairs and deploying observation forces between Egypt and Libya in order to guarantee the support of each country to the opposition forces in the other.
Ismael also called for reviving the common defense agreement between Sudan and Egypt which was frozen following the downing of al-Numeiri regime in 1985. He said that the meetings of the Sudanese- Egyptian higher committee which will be held in Khartoum by the end of this month will be an important step towards reactivating integration between the two states.
