Yemeni mediation between Jordan and Qatar over Hamas official
Yemen-Regional, Politics, 6/19/2001

The Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has stressed that Yemen will continue its efforts to settle the urgent problem between Jordan and Qatar which resulted from the arrival of one of the leading figures of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas to Amman on the board of a Qatari airline plane.

News reports quoted the Yemeni dailies issued on Monday as saying that Saleh stressed to the chairman of the political bureau of the Hamas movement Khaled Mashaal in a telephone call that Yemen will spare no efforts in order to solve this emerging problem in a fraternal and brotherly way in order to avoid any disputes or crack in the brotherly relations between the two states.

The dailies explained that Mashaal informed the Yemeni President with the implications of current developments at Queen Alia port relating to the question of the Qatari plane which carried the spokesman for Hamas Ibrahim Ghoushe to Amman and the developments of the expulsion of several Hamas leaders to Qatar and the demand to return them back to Jordan.

On Sunday Mashaal said that a Libyan mediation and another Yemeni mediation to this effect are underway.
