Obstacles behind the establishment of the Arab common market
Regional, Economics, 6/18/2001
The economist Suleiman al-Munziri at the Arab league has warned against the consequences of the alternative regional economic projects currently proposed to replace the foundation of a united Arab economic entity and the common Arab market.
Al-Munziri said that the most important among the proposed regional projects is the Middle East common market which came as one of the results of the second Gulf war ( the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait ) and aims at imposing foreign hegemony on the Arab market.
In his book ( the common Arab market in the age of globalization) al-Munziri added that the " the second regional project which constitutes a danger on the common Arab market are the Euro-Mediterranean partnership agreement and the multilateral investment agreement, for which preparations started outside the framework of the World Trade Organization in May 1950."
He stressed the need of accelerating the process of reviving the common Arab market as being the safety cordon to rescue Arab economies from the state of separation into integration.
