Moroccan parliament calls international community to shoulder responsibility in 'Israeli slaughters'
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 6/15/2001

The House of Representatives (lower house of the Moroccan parliament) has called on the international community to "shoulder its responsibility in the daily slaughters perpetrated by the Israeli army against the Palestinian people and to act to put an end to such atrocities."

During a plenary session, held Thursday in solidarity with the Palestinian people, the House speaker, Abdelouahed Radi, appealed to the international community, and mainly to the UN human rights commission and the UN high commission for refugees "to make urgent moves to stop the massacre of the Palestinian people."

Radi, who described Israel's acts as war crimes, said the international community must shoulder its responsibility in protecting the Palestinian people in line with the principles of the Geneva fourth convention that provides for the protection of civilians in time of war.

The various parliamentary groups at the house said condemning "Israel's barbarous acts and voicing solidarity with the Palestinian people are not enough. Words must be translated into concrete acts," they said calling for more material and moral support to the Palestinians.

They appealed to Arab governments to take concrete measures to enable the Palestinian people carry on their struggle and the refugees return to their homeland. They also called for the dismantling of settlements in the Arab territories and renewed attachment to the liberation of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) to make of the holy city the capital of Palestine.

The MPs have also hailed the efforts made by King Mohammed VI, chairman of the Al-Quds committee, and the actions he initiated in favor of the Palestinian people and the Al-Quds.
