Ebeid, EU representative to expand cooperation

The Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid Tuesday conferred with the European Union representative to Egypt Yan Bog on ways to widen the scale of cooperation between Egypt and the EU in the near future.

Following the meeting, attended by Minister of Economy Youssef Boutros Ghali, the EU official told reporters that signing the partnership agreement between Egypt and the EU within the coming few weeks will open new vistas for cooperation between the two sides, especially in the field of financing Egypt's modernization projects in the agricultural, industrial and services domains.

The two sides will endeavour to increase trade exchange, he pointed out.

Ebeid met yesterday with Egypt's senior bankers with the attendance of ministers of the economic group and Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt Ismail Hassan.

Following the meeting, Chief of the Banks Federation Mohammed Abdel Salam said the meeting discussed the current foreign exchange market and the import of the CBE's recent decision on reducing the rate of interest on lending.

Ebeid urged the senior officials to speed up modernizing the banking industry and reactivate the market move.

The meeting also dealt with suggestions on implementing inter-banks meager, ways of increasing deposits and upgrading the policy of credits. The Egyptian banks deposit a reserve at the CBE to face any credit risks which are calculated and secure.
