Mubarak to attend media men celebrations
Egypt, Politics, 6/13/2001

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will on Wednesday evening attend the Egyptian media celebration of the 18th Media Day which will be held by the Ministry of Information at the Media Production City at October 6 City.

President Mubarak will, on this occasion, open a number of new media projects and will meet with writers, intellectuals, journalists, artists and media people.

It is the day on which media people give an account to the President on the efforts exerted over the past year and a pledge to continue to exert efforts to realize more media and technological projects.

The Minister of Information made these statements Tuesday during a wide tour he made in the Media Production City to inspect arrangements and final preparations to receive President Mubarak during the celebration of Egyptian media.

The Minister of Information said that in the reign of President Mubarak, Egypt built over more than 20 consecutive years, a giant media infrastructure which was represented in major important projects which President Mubarak was keen to inaugurate in all their stages.

Foremost among these projects is the Egyptian satellite project Nilesat for which President Mubarak signed an historic document on Media Day in 1995 which ushered Egypt into the space age and the age of satellites which has become a reality and a fact.

The Minister said that Egypt thus became the First Arab and African country which possesses the first generation of satellites.

There is also the project of the Media Production City which represents a leap made by Egypt in the field of media production in the Arab area and Africa.

The Media Production City owned by Egypt is the second of its kind at world level in terms of techniques and potentials.

The Minister of Information said that the tour of President Mubarak on Media day begins when the President inaugurates the power transformers station in the Free Media Area and the new Nilesat which represents an important infrastructure.

It was built at a cost of 55 million pounds in collaboration with the Ministry of Electricity the Media Production City, the Egyptian Nilesat and the Radio and Television Union.

President Mubarak will unveil a memorial plaque at the giant station signalling its inauguration.

He will see a model of the station on which Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr. Ali Saidi will explain the potentials and capacities of the high-power 100 megawatt station which was built according to latest techniques.

President Mubarak will proceed to the main operation room in the area and give the signal to operate and release the electric current for the first time at the station.

The Minister of Information said that the power transformers station with these high standards was a pressing necessity in order to ensure wide operation operations at the Media Production City with all its current and future expansions and the Egyptian satellite project which has high techniques.

The new high-speed station replaces an old mobile station which fed these projects.

The old station will be used in other spheres at the October Six City and neighbouring residential quarters.

The Minister of Information said that President Mubarak and members of his accompanying delegation will then proceed to the digital transmission centre at the main ground control station of the Egyptian satellite Nilesat.

He will be greeted on arrival by Prime Minister Dr. Atef Ebeid, Cabinet Ministers and representatives of special space channels which transmit their programmes via the Egyptian satellites Nilesat 101 and Nilesat 102.

There are, up till now, 117 Egyptian, Arab and international open and coded distinguished channels which are spread in the majority of parts of the world.

Al Sherif said that it is a good omen that Egypt celebrates Media Day when President Mubarak honours the occasion with his presence and gives the signal to operate two Arab space channels, for the first time, via the Egyptian satellite a Syrian and a Sudanese channel.

At the digital transmission centre, President Mubarak will also give the signal to operate 4 Egyptian special space channels for the first time.

This represents a qualitative and civilization stride at the Egyptian Media City realized in the reign of President Mubarak.

The 4 channels are the specialized Egyptian tourism channel, the Dream space channel and the new "A1 Mehwar" (Axis) space channel which are trade marketing which was transmitted over the past months on the Egyptian satellite Nilesat in its experimental stage.

The Minister of Information said that these channels were launched after the Free Media Zone at October 6 City became a reality and a fact.

President Mubarak issued a decision for its establishment last year so that Egyptian space channels may be launched through it for the first time in Egypt.

A1 Sherif said that President Mubarak will give, during the celebration, the go-ahead signal to begin operation of a specialized "A1 Tanweer" (Enlightenment) channel, an all encompassing channel which will present seminars, serials and high-level plays and films and also history and religious production, interpretation of the Quran, prayers, Quran recitals, old songs of the heritage and fine music.

It will be the channel of the Egyptian and Arab family. It will be concerned with genuine behaviour and strengthen its foundations, stress the Arab identity and maintain values, customs and traditions.

President Mubarak will give the signal to begin transmission of 32 new Egyptian, Arab and international radio channels on the Egyptian satellite Nilesat.
