Morocco, Culture, 6/13/2001

Morocco's action in favor of the cause of children was hailed as "exemplary" by head of the Preparatory Committee for the UN extraordinary general assembly on children, Partricia Durrant.

The diplomat said King Mohammed VI and Princess Lalla Meryem have given us all a great example. By appointing the princess as his personal representative to the preparatory committee meeting, His Majesty has produced evidence to the interest and importance he grants to childhood issues, she went on.

The princess, who heads Morocco's National Observatory of Children Rights, is presently in New York where she is taking part in the Preparatory Committee for the UN General Assembly's special session on children, due in September.
