Jordan prevents the entry of the West Bank Palestinians before getting a prior consent
Jordan-Palestine, Politics, 6/13/2001
In an unprecedented measure, the Jordanian authorities decided to prevent the Palestinians of the West Bank from entering Jordan without a prior consent, justifying this measure for fears that Israel will gradually expel them.
The Palestinian daily al-Quds quoted a high ranking Jordanian source as saying that the Jordanian ministry of the Interior issued new instructions to dealing with the people of the West Bank for fears from the Israeli pressures which seek to expel those Palestinians gradually to Jordan.
The said paper published this news in its front page and stressed quoting the source that "in avoidance of any problems on the bridges, everyone who wants to visit Jordan and carries a green card ( a card indicates that its bearer lives in the West Bank) has to assign one of his relatives to apply for a visit together with mentioning the reasons for that visit and in case the approval is made his name will be put on the bridge in the lists of those who are permitted to pass."
The paper noted that in certain conditions like medical treatment, taking part in wedding parties or funerals, the bridges administration will understand these cases in being emergency and in these cases the prevention will be flexible and such cased are permitted to get into Jordan. The paper also mentioned other cases in which those Palestinians are permitted to come to Jordan including travel to a third country or asking for a visa or for any other reason described as exceptional.
The paper continued that well-informed sources in Amman said that the Jordanian authorities will ask the Palestinian authority very soon to provide it with the names of the " people of Jerusalem" who got Israeli passports and they are at the same time carrying Jordanian passports."
