American churches council condemns Israeli crimes

Heads of churches in the US have denounced the Israeli practices against the Palestinian people and called on the US to stop providing Israel with weapons by which the palestinian Intifada has been beaten.

A statement handed over by a delegation composed of 26 representatives from the American churches council to the US secretary of state Colin Powell during their recent meeting with him on Israel's use of the US war planes F16 and helicopters and tanks in striking the Palestinian areas.

The statement which was circulated by the complex of the ME churches in Beirut on Tuesday indicated that there is no priority to achieving peace in the world more important than between the Palestinians and Israel, noting that the developments of the Arab- Israeli conflict threaten security in the region and the relations of the US with the Arab and Islamic states.

The statement added that the Churches delegation which recently visited the region saw the destructive impact of the Israeli settlement policy in the Palestinian territories which separated the villages of the West Bank and Gaza from each other, confiscated more Palestinian territories and created tension in the region.

The statement expressed the concern of the heads of churches in the USA about the catastrophic conditions of the Palestinians resulted from the continued Israeli aggressions, because of economic deprivation and the loss of the hope to establishing just and comprehensive peace and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
