Palestinian- Israeli security meeting obstacles
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 6/13/2001

While the Israeli TV announced that the Americans made great pressures during the security meeting which was held in occupied Jerusalem in the presence of the director of the American CIA George Tenet, in order that the Palestinian side will agree on the American proposals, concerning halting of the confrontation, the Palestinian side stressed its rejection of the Israeli demands which state to take security measures before lifting the military siege imposed on the Palestinian villages and cities, while the Israeli settlers continued their provocation on the ground and the Israeli officials threatened of more aggressions.

At the time when the spokesman for the Israeli prime minister Ranaan Geisei said that Israel agreed to adopt Tenet's plan, a Palestinian source in Gaza announced that the Palestinians have reservations on certain American proposals which are in compliance with Israeli demands of the Palestinian authority to launch a campaign of arrest in the lines of the Palestinians especially in the Hamas and the Islamic Jihad movements as well as to collect their weapons and halt the provocation against Israel.

The chairman of the Palestinian preventive security department Jibril al-Rajoub stressed that the security meeting did not attain any results.

He added that the Israeli side showed no response to fundamental issues, especially ending the siege and closure, halting the settlement process and releasing the detainees and halting the aggressions.

Al-Rajoub explained that there are contradiction in all matters, and not mere surface differences, noting that Israel set a precondition to continue the occupation under the pretext to restoring back stability and calm, noting that "this will be only attainable in dreams." He called on the international community to force Israeli to abide by agreements and lay a schedule to end the occupation.

Al-Rajoub continued that that the Palestinian people have carried out their legitimate rights in resisting the occupation and that the arrests demanded by Israel will not be made.

Meantime, the Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon on Tuesday threatened of using of force in confronting any acts of resistance by the Palestinian people to liberate their lands, but he announced Israel's approval on Tenet's plan.

During the annual lunch of the federation of the chambers of commerce in Israel, Sharon said he had agreed on Mitchell's report claiming he asked his forces to cease fire.

The Israeli prime minister also claimed that his forces are avoiding attacking objectives for the Palestinian Authority in order to permit these Palestinian forces, as he claimed, to honor its obligations in the security area at a time the Israeli forces used weapons against the unarmed Palestinians.

Concerning the attacks, a Palestinian source in Gaza said that the Israeli settlers on Monday evening broke into Hawara village near Nablus and set fire in several houses of the village, while Israeli fighters of F-16 held provocative raids in the airspace of Gaza.

An Israeli source in occupied Jerusalem announced that a military exercise started on Tuesday with the participation of various units of the Israeli army and ambulances and fire fighting teams with the aim of knowing the rate of preparedness for the Israeli forces.
