NATO's army commander notes Algeria's role

The commander of NATO allied troops in southern Europe Admiral Lweji Lilo has stressed that Algeria which enjoys a good strategic position and a strong sea formation can play a pivotal role together with Spain and other countries in the arrangements place by the NATO for the Mediterranean region.

Admiral Lilo, currently visiting Algeria said in a press conference he held on Monday evening that it is possible to implement a tangible work plan between the Algerian naval forces and the NATO forces after the year 2002 and that a tour has been set for Algeria in September of the said year (2002).

Admiral Lilo arrived in Algiers on Monday evening leading a NATO military delegation in a visit which will last for three days during which he held talks with Algerian military leaders aimed at strengthening means of military cooperation between the two sides.
