Princess Lalla Meryem visits UNICEF, UNDP in New York

Morocco's Princess Lalla Meryem met in New York on Monday the chiefs of the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Development program, respectively Carol Bellamy and Mark Malloch Brown.
The princess, who heads Morocco's National Observatory of Children Rights, is presently in New York where she is taking part in the Preparatory Committee for the UN General Assembly's special session on children in September.
The princess renewed to the UNICEF head the interest voiced by King Mohammed VI to enhance coordination and harmonization among countries of the south in research and cooperation. Bellamy agreed that research and information are important in promoting target actions.
Princess Lalla Meryem and the UNDP general manager surveyed cooperation ties between Morocco and the UNDP and stressed the need to further develop this cooperation at a time Morocco has embarked on an ambitious program to reduce social gaps and disparities, especially between rural and urban areas.
The princess insisted on the importance of tripartite cooperation between the UNDP, Morocco and southern countries.
