Hashish plantation in Lebanon grows
Lebanon, Local, 6/12/2001
The British daily al-Guardian issued on Monday said that a crises has hit the people of the Lebanese al-Bekaa district when the al-Hashish and other drug plants, used to offer Lebanese farmers almost $ 500 million was abrogated.
The paper added that the very bad conditions of the Lebanese farmers are returning again the farmers to implant these plants in order to survive and it seems that they are ready to fight their government in order to protect the drug plants they are re-growing.
The paper proceeded that the moves to re-plant drugs in the Lebanese al-Bekaa area were depicted after the donor states for aids to Lebanon failed to fulfil their obligations to support alternative industries in the region.
The paper continued that according to one of these reports 6000 hectares of the lands were cultivated by Hashish in the Bekaa this year and this is the largest area to be planted with this plant since the Lebanese government had started its program for the elimination of drugs plants in the Bekaa since 10 years.
