Iraq did not make a nuclear test in 1989
Iraq, Politics, 6/12/2001
The chairman of the UN committee on investigation, control and inspection concerning Iraq Hans Pelex has announced that Iraq did not carry out a nuclear test in 1989, as claimed by certain news reports earlier this year.
News reports quoted Pelex saying that the report which he addressed last week to the UN Security Council stressed that the reports which said that Iraq had carried out a nuclear test under Razaza lake, situated to the southern west of Baghdad on September 19 of 1989 are wrong reports.
Plex added that the committee he presides over and the International agency of atomic energy have the evidences, through land and air tests that there are no nuclear tests under the said lake.
For his part the professor at the " Earth sciences " at the US Arizona university Terry Walsi said that these news reports are just a deception, noting that the pictures of earthquakes released by the American geological agency and the international earthquake center do not show any important earthquake activity in Iraq during the time it was claimed that Iraq had carried out the nuclear test.
Walsi explained that it was easy to know whether Iraq had carried out a nuclear test through international or regional earthquake monitoring centers in Iran, Israel or Jordan.
