Israeli threats against Syria and Lebanon
Regional-Israel, Politics, 6/12/2001

The London based al-Mushahid al-Seyasi ( the political observer) magazine said in its recent issue that members of the ruling regime in Lebanon are in a state of great concern as a result of the information conveyed by the Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara to the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud during their recent meeting in Beirut on the seriousness of the Israeli threats against Syria and Lebanon.

In an analysis in its recent issue, the paper said that these information were built on perceptions told by the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad that the Israeli prime minister might materialize his threats into an aggression against Syria and Lebanon in case the Lebanese national resistance will assume its operations against the Israeli positions.

The magazine unveiled that Sharon got the American green light to strike painfully Syria and Lebanon that would result in silencing the missiles of the Lebanese resistance and ensuring stability on the Southern front of Israel and this was after Sharon had informed Washington on the dangers to be inflected on opening the Lebanese southern front on the Israeli security.

The magazine added that Syria and Lebanon have taken a secret decision during Baabda talks between Lahoud and al-Shara stating to " justify" the front of Southern Lebanon and to halt the resistance operations, according to Egyptian and French recommendations so as to withdraw the paper of southern Lebanon from Sharon's hand and to be confined to using the political papers in the Arab states and Europe, and this is within the framework of a military and tactical framework to take off the danger from Lebanon and Syria.

The magazine indicated that the Syrian minister conveyed to President Lahoud the concern of President Bashar al-Assad from the atmospheres of the change inside the Lebanese circles and the emergence of voices calling for the re-deployment of the Syrian army, correcting the Syrian- Lebanese relations and to re-considering the agreements signed between the two countries.
