Large eulogy marks death anniversary of President Hafez al-Assad

A huge eulogy was held on Sunday in al-Qurdaha, the birthplace of the late Syrian President Hafez al-Assad on the occasion of his first death anniversary. It was attended by President Bashar al-Assad and members of his family, Dr. Jamil al-Assad, and Maj. Maher al-Assad.

It was also attended by senior Syrian party and state officials, the prime minister and the cabinet ministers and crowded number of citizens.

Among the Arab guests who attended the funeral were the Lebanese President Emil Lahoud, the Iranian Vice President Hassan Habibi, the speaker of the Lebanese parliament Nabih Berri, the chairman of the Lebanese Socialist progressive Party Walid Junblat, the Egyptian information minister Safwat al-Sharif, the Secretary general of the Arab league Amr Moussa, former Algerian President Ahmad Bin Bella, former Yemeni President Ali Nasser Muhammad, former Lebanese premiers, ministers and members of parliament and the commander of the Lebanese army as well as heads of missions of foreign ambassadors accredited in Damascus.

Speeches read on this occasion were by Huda jamal Abdul Nasser ( daughter of the late Egyptian President Jamal Abdul Nasser), Jan Obeid from Lebanon, Talal naji for Palestine, Azmi Beshara, the Palestinian intellectual made a speech on behalf of the Palestinians of the 1948 occupied territories ( now Israel), Murad Ghaleb the chairman of the Afro-Asian peoples solidarity organization.

The speakers commemorating the late President's national traits and his commitment to defending Arab causes and restore back Arab usurped rights and lands.
