Al-Assad congratulates Khatami, discusses with Moussa revitalizing AL work

Syrian President Bashar al- Assad on Sunday in al-Qurdaha met with the secretary general of the Arab League (AL) Amr Moussa. Present at the meeting was the foreign minister Farouk al-Shara.

Talks dealt with certain Arab issues and means of revitalizing work activities of the AL.

On the other hand, President Bashar al-Assad sent a cable of congratulations to President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Muhammad Khatami on the occasion of his winning the Presidential elections in Iran for the second running term of office. The cable expressed congratulations to the Iranian President on the confidence entrusted on him by the Iranian people and expressed the President's confidence that fraternal relations will be boosted between Syria and Iran.

President al-Assad also sent a similar cable of congratulations to the British prime Tony Blair on the occasion of the British labor party winning of the parliamentary elections in Britain. The President expressed his hope to strengthening Syrian- British relations for the benefits of the two peoples and the realization of a just and comprehensive peace in the Arab region.
