Sourour lashes at Israeli violations of international agreements
Egypt-Israel, Politics, 6/9/2001

Egyptian Parliament Speaker Fathi Sourour in press statement lashed at Israel's violations of international agreements and legislation.

The top Egyptian and Arab lawmaker asserted, therefore, that dialogue could be held with Israel only after it shows good intention towards realization of just, all-out and durable peace in the Middle East.

Sourour, who had led the Egyptian delegation to the IPU conference, condemned the Israeli coercive measures against the defenseless Palestinian people.

An Arab TV station earlier yesterday claimed that the Egyptian parliament speaker would hold, on the sidelines of the IPU conference, a meeting with the head of the Israeli delegation tot he conference.

On the other hand, Fathi Sourour met Friday with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Director General Juan Somafia.

They discussed during the meeting, held at the Geneva-based ILO headquarters, Egyptian efforts to combat unemployment and create more job opportunities.

The two sides also addressed prospects of technical cooperation between Egypt and the international organisation in implementing specialised programmes and boosting the ILO role in serving production parties in Egypt.

Sourour also discussed with the Intellectual Property International Committee Chairman Kamel Idris cooperation between Egypt and the committee, especially the relevant project Egypt is now preparing.

The top Egyptian lawmaker will preside over the Saturday closing session of the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) conference.
