Morocco-Germany, Politics, 6/8/2001
The Moroccan and German interior ministers, Ahmed El Midaoui and Otto Schiliy, convened to set up a joint work group that will identify pending problems at the level of the two departments.
A statement issued in Rabat Thursday at the end of the German official's two-day work visit to Morocco said the work group will make concrete and accurate proposals to settle these problems.
Talks between the two sides covered issues falling within the scope of the interior departments' prerogatives, mainly struggle against drug trafficking and illegal immigration webs, the situation of the Moroccan community settled in Germany and of the German nationals living in Morocco, civilians' protection, decentralization and staff training, the statement said.
The two ministers vowed to give momentum to cooperation between the two departments and agreed to meet on a regular basis, the statement said, adding the two sides noted with satisfaction the convergence of standpoints on issues of mutual concern and the friendly and cordial atmosphere of their meetings.
The German official was received Thursday in Agadir by King Mohammed VI.
