Sudan declares state of alert against the rebels in the south
Sudan, Politics, 6/8/2001
The Sudanese cabinet on Thursday announced the beginning of a campaign of alert in the country and to mobilize all potentials in order to confront the attack launched by the rebels in the southern part of the country.
This was declared during a meeting held by the Cabinet on Thursday chaired by President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, who stressed that the IGAD's summit which was held recently in Nairobi stressed that the rebels movement in Southern Sudan is not willing to maintain peace and is based on foreign forces.
The Sudanese president, on the other hand, stressed in a meeting organized by the Sudanese workers trade union that the armed and people defense forces will not give up the unity of the country's territories, nor stability and security of its citizens.
In a press conference held on Wednesday, the Sudanese foreign minister Mustafa Othman stressed that the government will deter the forces of the rebels movement and will restore back the territories occupied by them regardless to the price.
