Arab summit resolutions follow up committee to meet in Amman
Regional, Politics, 6/8/2001

A source at the Arab League said on Thursday that the meeting in charge of following up the Arab summit resolutions in support of the Palestinians will hold an ordinary meeting in Amman this month in order to discuss the situation in the Palestinian territories.

The source added that the committee will hold its meeting under the chairmanship of the Jordanian foreign minister Abdul Illah al-Khatib whose country is assuming the current presidency of the Arab summit and will discuss the issue of backing the two funds of the Intifada.

The Jordanian source added that the committee will also discuss following up recommendations approved during its extraordinary meeting held in Cairo on May 19 especially halting contacts with Israel. Then, the committee recommended to halt all contacts with Israel as far as the Israeli siege and aggression continue against the Palestinian people.

To this effect, the Moroccan " al-Itihad al-Ishtiraki" daily criticized the abstination of certain Arab states from committing to the resolutions of the Arab- boycott of Israel and noting in particular to the recent visit made by the Mauritanian foreign minister to Israel. In a commentary published on Thursday on the occasion of the June set back of 1967 ( when the Arabs lost the war against Israel) the paper explained that such practices weaken inter- Arab solidarity.
