Qatari chief editor knifed

Chief editor of the Qatari daily was wounded on Wednesday when he was attacked and stabbed by three Qatari men.
News reports quoted the hospital where he was treated said that Ahmad Ali, who is a reputed journalist, was admitted to hospital of wounded and that his health conditions are stable now.
Journalists said that the police arrested the attackers who are from the prominent family of al-Ateyah to which belong the Qatari minister of energy and industry Abdullah Bin Hamad al-Ateyah.
The editor in the said paper Hayem al-Ghanem told reporters that the three men attacked Ali while he was in his office, adding that their entered his office and locked the door and then workers at the newspaper heard screams and when the door was broken the three men rushed out and Ali was laying on the ground with the blood covering his face.
Ali, who is known for his strong criticism to the government has been the chief editor for al-Watan since its foundation in 1996. The Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jasem Bin Jaber al-Thani own a share in the said paper.
However, the intention behind the attack were not clarified yet. The Qatari al-Jazira satellite TV linked between the attack and an article recently written criticizing a proposal made by the minister of energy to impose a taxation on water to limit water consumption.
