Al-Riyadh holds Canada responsible for canceling visit of crown prince
Saudi Arabia-Canada, Politics, 6/7/2001

The Saudi minister of the Interior Prince Nayef has announced that the statements made by the Canadian foreign minister John Manly and media campaign against Saudi Arabia pushed the Saudi crown prince Abdullah to cancel his visit to Canada.

In the first official comment on canceling the visit which was due to be held by the Saudi crown prince to Canada, the Saudi minister of the Interior said on Tuesday that the campaign against Saudi Arabia in the Canadian press and Manly's statements pushed the crown prince to cancel his visit.

The Saudi dailies said that the decision to cancel the visit came as an expression of the anger of the Saudi authorities over what was stated by the Canadian mass media on accusations on torturing the Canadian William Samsoun who is jailed in Saudi Arabia under links to the series of explosions took place in al-Riyadh.
