Mitchell's recommendations are not substitute for Madrid conference
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 6/7/2001

The chairman of the UN committee on fact finding in the Palestinian territories George Mitchell has refused that the recommendations of the committee's report to replace the resolutions and basics of the Madrid conference for peace or a violation to the Oslo agreements between the Palestinians and the Israelis.

In a statement he made on Wednesday Mitchell added that the report's recommendations are confined to proposing a series of steps starting as from unconditional halting to what he called the violence between the Palestinians and the Israelis and ends in restoring back confidence between the two sides in preparation to resuming negotiations.

Mitchell considered the recommendations of the committee as the minimum rate for perspectives on the ground of which negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis can be reset into the right track, according to the agreements signed between the two sides.
