An increase in Arab exports
Regional, Economics, 6/6/2001
A report to be submitted by the secretary of the Arab economic unity council Ahmad Jweili to the 73rd session of the council to be held today in Baghdad stressed the increase in the value of Arab exports to USD 162.9 billion during 1999, in comparison to USD 136 billion in 1998, representing an increase of 19.8%.
The reports said that the imports of the Arab states ( as a whole group) decreased at 1.6% to reach 151.7 billion USD in 19999 against almost USD 154.2 billion in 1998.
The report noted that inter- Arab trade out of the total Arab trade reached 8.6% in average in 1999. A rate which is less in comparison to the rate of the previous year and this is attributed to the great increase in the value of total Arab exports.
The report which is composed of seven main chapters stressed the need of supporting the Palestinian economy and the Intifada. It recommended the need that all Arab states to help the Palestinian economy to be released from the Israeli economy through opening the Arab markets before the Palestinian commodities and eliminating all customs obstacles before the Palestinian exports as well as to pump Arab investments in Palestine in order to contribute to building the Palestinian economy.
