Moussa warns of escalating tension
Regional-Palestine, Politics, 6/4/2001
Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa Saturday warned of the grave consequences of the ongoing deterioration in the Palestinian lands and Mideast region.
Commenting on Friday's explosion in Tel Aviv, Moussa said "What is going on in the Palestinian lands is the tragic result of the collapse of the peace process and the ongoing tension between the Palestinians and Israelis."
He warned of the seriousness of haphazardly putting the blame an certain party or parties responsible for the escalating deterioration in the region. Moussa called for providing protection for the Palestinians in order to help scale down tension in the region.
He called for going back to the negotiating table and applying the Egyptian-Jordanian initiative and Mitchell commission's recommendations.
Moussa urged the US, key peace sponsor, to quickly move in this direction and work with the sides concerned to salvage the region from further deterioration.
