Egypt's pioneering role in maintaining Islamic identity is stressed

The 13th Conference of Higher Islamic Affairs Council continued its evening and morning sessions under the auspices of President Hosni Mubarak.Chaired by Minister of Endowment (Waqfs) Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzouq.
The Conference said that Egypt had played a pioneering role in maintain Islamic identity through its scholars contributions.
The speakers, in the second day, called for studying the conditions of each Islamic state, which had minorities so as to offer the jurisprudential, religious solutions to their problems.
They also called for renewing and rejuvenating Islamic thought in a way that maintains Islamic modernization reasonability, consultation and social justice.
On his part, Head of the Islamic Department in Kosovo called on the Islamic countries to open diplomatic representation offices in Kosovo as done by Turkey, Malaysia and some European countries.
In statement on the sidelines of the their conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs whose proceedings kicked off on Thursday in Cairo, Kosovo's officials hailed efforts exerted by some Arab and Islamic states to remove the effects of the Serbian aggression on Kosovo, which had led to the killing of tensof thousands of people, destroying 250,000 houses and demolishing 218 mosques.
He greeted efforts exerted by the Egyptian physicians syndicate and the Red Crescent Society to help Muslims.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Council continued its proceedings for the second day running under the chairmanship of Waqfs Minister Mahmoud Hamdi Zaqzouq.
Fawzya al Ishmawi, Professor at Geneva University and Head of the Swiss Delegation called for paying more attention to Muslims abroad and helping them defend Islam.
She also called for establishing institutes for teaching Arabic for the Muslim communities abroad.
Sheikh Ibrahim Saleh Al Hoseini, Head of the Islamic Council in Nigeria and Head of the Ifta Muslim House hailed the role of Egypt and Al Azhar in maintaining the Muslim nation civilization.
Sheik Abdel Amir Qabalan, Deputy Chairman of the Shiite Islamic Council in Lebanon described Al Azhar as one of Islam's fortresses which has kept the unity of the Muslim nation and maintained teachings of Islam.
The evening session of the conference dwelt on issues of environment and women in Islam.
UAE's Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqfs Mohammed Nakhira al-Dhahiri said a number of rules and regulations on environment protection had been adopted by his country.
"President Sheikh Zayed Ben Sultan al-Nahyan of the UAE had earlier ordered that his country would take part in operations to remove the landmines planted by the Israeli occupation forces in South Lebanon," the minister added.
