Syria-Palestine, Politics, 6/2/2001
Palestinian youth organizations, Arab women organization and Palestine children residing in Syria on Thursday staged a sit-in in front of the offices of the UN and UNICEF in Damascus, in solidarity with the Palestinian people's struggle and their Intifada as well as with the Palestinian child, on the occasion of World Child Day.
The sitters-in handed two messages to the director of the UNICEF offices in Damascus Mohammad al-Alami and to the UNDP resident representative Tawfik Ben Amara. The two messages were addressed to the UNICEF Director and to the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and to the international community. The message were an appeal to stand by the Palestinian children who are subject to killings, siege, displacement and to the destruction of their houses along with their families every day by Israeli occupation forces.
The sitters-in pointed out in their letters that some 100 Palestinian children who are under the age of 15 were killed in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
