US envoys sees Mitchell's report as indivisible package
Egypt-USA, Politics, 5/31/2001
US envoy William Burns during his meeting with President Hosni Mubarak early Thursday said that Mitchell's report is a whole and indivisible package that should be implemented in toto, not selectively.
Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher who attended the meeting said that the job of the US envoy is to reach an agreement with the Palestinian and Israeli sides to forge a plan with a timetable to put the report into force, said Maher.
"Mubarak pointed out that it is important for Israel to take steps that would alleviate tension and show real intention to implement the report's recommendations, especially in what regards halting settlements or expanding the existing ones," added Maher.
Palestinians should feel that Israel is seriously interested in implementing the recommendations highlighted by the report, said Maher. Burns will head for Amman before flying to the US where he will take over officialy as assistant state secretary to sumbit a report to President George Bush on his contacts, said Maher. Burns will soon take over as Assistant Secretary of State.
