Francophone agency grants aid to Lebanese libraries
Lebanon, Education, 5/31/2001
The Francophone agency has granted Lebanon $600,000 to establish public libraries, says Lebanese minister of culture, Ghassan Salameh, on Tuesday. An agreement was signed between the two sides to establish 14 libraries with French and Arabic books in several towns, provided that at least 600 students should inhabit the town where a library will be established.
A library will be built in each of the 40 chosen towns and villages with 2,500 books and audio-visual equipment. Fifty percent of the Lebanese people live in rural regions.
