Egyptian-American talks on probing Palestinian- Israeli situation
Egypt-USA, Politics, 5/30/2001
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher Tuesday received Wayne Owen, Director of the US Middle East Center for Peace and Economic Cooperation, and Maurice D. Hinchey, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee at the US House of Representatives, currently visiting Cairo within a tour of some countries in the region.
Emerging from the meeting, Hinchey said that talks with the foreign minister centred on the situation in the Palestinians occupied territories.
Hinchey extended thanks to the Egyptian government for its positive role in quest of acceptable peaceful solutions.
"We have listened to the Egyptian foreign minister's advice for our activities in the upcoming stage as we visit leaders in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Israel," said Hinchey.
On the US stand as regards the Middle East peace process, Hinchey said that he could not speak on behalf of the US government.
"However, I, as an observer, dare say that the new US administration is getting ready for more active participation and we will continue encouraging this orientation to realise peace in the Middle East region,"he concluded.
