Syrian waters to Jordan
Syria-Jordan, Economics, 5/30/2001

It is decided that a Jordanian delegation will head for Damascus within the few coming days to hold talks with Jordan on providing Jordan quantities of waters that would help to eliminate the water crisis of this summer in Jordan.

Water shortage during this period in Jordan is expected to be 10 million cubic meters.

In the year 2000, Syria provided Jordan with 3 million cubic meters and 8 million cubic meters in the year 1999. Syria has repeatedly stressed readiness to help Jordan to eliminate its water crisis.

Syria had taken a decision to ban agriculture around al-Yarmouk river ( in the southern part of the country bordering Jordan). A matter which saves 8 million cubic meters of waters to Jordan to be transformed through King Abdullah water channel to provide the Jordanian capital Amman with potable waters.
