Senegalese president supports fusion of OMEGA and Mbeki's Plan for Africa
Senegal-Regional, Politics, 5/29/2001

Senegalese president, Abdoulaye Wade, said he supports a fusion between his own "OMEGA" plan and the South African president Thabo Mbeki's plan to save Africa, reports Senegalese news agency "APS."

The Senegalese president, who was talking at the launching of a think-thank named "building Senegal with president Wade," said Africa will win a lot from putting together the two plans, adding this is also the wish of the UN secretary general and the UN economic commission for Africa.

He added the new document "new partnership for Africa" will contain in its first part Mbeki's plan for Africa's renaissance and will be completed by the OMEGA plan as an implementation plan.

He went on that his plan which has not been criticized by economists will be submitted to African heads of state next July in Lusaka (Zambia) before being tabled for adoption at the United Nations summit on children slated for next September in New York.

He also announced that Dakar will host two events on the plan: a seminar of economists and international financial institutions in June, and a meeting of African heads of state in November.
