Shura Council voting process runs in a democratic atmosphere
Egypt, Politics, 5/28/2001
The second stage of mid-term Shura Council elections in seven governorates witnessed relative calm and average turnout at the start of voting.
The number of voters, however, increased following the end of work hours in governmental agencies, and public and private sector companies.
The vote is taking place in the governorates of Damietaa, Dakahliya, Sharkiya, Gharbia, Ismailia, the Red Sea and South Sinai.
No irregularities have been reported so far in the balloting process, according to reports coming from National Democratic Party (NDP) branches throughout the governorates.
The reports showed that the main competitors in the seven governorates were NDP and independent candidates.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Habib A1 Adly followed up the process through the reports received by the central operations room at the ministry.
The voting process took place in a democratic atmosphere and under full judicial supervision, Minister of Justice Farouq Saif A1 Nasr said.
The high committee for supervising the elections is currently following up the process of vote counting until the results are officially declared, he added.
