Mubarak priority to be given to Arab and foreign investments

Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid said President Hosni Mubarak called on the government to give priority to the Arab and foreign investments and promote the trade with G-15 meetings which will open in Jakarta this week.

President Mubarak also called for benefitting from the experience of G-15 countries to promote exports and attract investments, Ebeid said.

Ebeid will leave Cairo for Jakarta on Sunday to attend G-15 meetings.

Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Youssef Boutros Ghali on Friday evening headed for Jakarta to take part in the meeting of G-15 economy ministers.

The meeting will discuss preparations for the 11th summit of G15, to start in Jakarta on Thursday.

The summit will adopt the issue of harnessing the revolution of information and communications in the service of development.

Egypt is due to propose an initiative for setting up an information network to link up the group members.

The G-15 was formed in 1989 and includes at present 19 member states: Egypt, Algeria, Kenya, Senegal, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Jamaica, Chile, Venezuela and Mexico. Both Colombia and Iran joined the group last year.

Moreover, Egyptian Ambassador in Jakarta Ezat Saad Friday said Egypt will suggest during the Group of Fifteen Summit, setting up an information technology (IT) cooperation centre.

Saad in an exclusive interview with Sawt Al Arab radio via telephone described the Egyptian participation in the summit works as extensive.

Egypt is one of the founders of the G-1S group and one of the most active member states as it hosted two summit and submitted several projects to promote cooperation among members, the ambassador said.
