Annan lauds Mubarak's commitment to peaceful solutions
Regional, Politics, 5/26/2001

After President Hosni Mubarak warned of the grave consequences of eruption of violence in the Palestinian lands, US President George Bush, urged both Palestinian Authority Leader Yasser Arafat, and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, to contain violence, and accept the recommendations of Mitchell Commissions report.

In an exclusive remarks to Akhbar E1 Yom, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan said that the situation in the Middle East is very dangerous, but he's optimistic due to the fact that President Mubarak is committed to exert all possible efforts to resume peaceful negotiations.

"This indeed is a wise stance that enjoys an international support and appreciation. The Egyptian-Jordanian initiative is a logic basis to resume peace talks" the secretary general said, adding that there is another US motion to deal with the crisis in a positive manner, and to implement the recommendations outlined in the Mitchell Commission Report.
