On the OIC Doha Summit
Regional-Israel, Politics, 5/26/2001

Well-informed diplomatic sources in Doha told the London- based al-Sharq al-Awsat daily issued on Friday as saying that the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference today ( Saturday) will concentrate on calling on the Arab states which hold full relations or trade representation offices with Israel to sever these relations.

These sources explained that a strong bloc composed of Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Malaysia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Syria and Lebanon constitutes a strong pressure on the Arab states which have relations with Israel to cut these relations or at least freeze them.

On the other hand, al-Sharq al-Awsat quoted well-informed sources at the Arab League saying that the AL secretary general Amr Moussa will send a written message of contempt to the Mauritania foreign minister who recently visited israel.

The sources stressed that Syria and maybe Libya might propose in the few coming days in an official request to the AL council to freeze Mauritania's membership or halting this membership at the meantime.
