Turkish parliamentary delegation in Morocco
Morocco-Turkey, Politics, 5/25/2001

A Turkish parliamentary delegation, led by chairman of the Turkish-Moroccan parliamentary friendship group, Mahfouz Kollir, is currently visiting Morocco for talks on the consolidation of ties between the two countries' legislative institutions.

The delegation members held separate meetings Thursday with the speakers of the two chambers of the Moroccan parliament, Abdelouahed Radi and Mustapha Oukacha.

Talks covered bilateral relations and the need to hoist economic cooperation to the level of the political, spiritual, cultural and historical relations binding the two countries, their role on the Islamic and Mediterranean scenes, in addition to the situation in the Middle East.

In this respect, Radi expressed hope that Turkey would undertake moves to help reach a fair, lasting settlement to the Arab-Israeli conflict, enabling the Palestinian people establish an independent state with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital. Recalling that King Mohammed VI is the chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, he pointed out that this issue is on top of Morocco's concerns and that Morocco wishes to see Turkey play a key role in the defense of Al-Quds.

The head of the delegation described as unacceptable the Israeli practices against the Palestinian people, pledging that his country will always remain at the side of the Palestinian people in their struggle to recover their legitimate rights.

Talks also touched on the Sahara issue and Morocco's territorial integrity. The Moroccan side voiced thanks to Turkey for its backing to the kingdom's territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
