Morocco to support Senegal in telecom regulation

Morocco has pledged to help Senegal in reforming its telecom sector and setting up a telecom regulation agency, a Moroccan official announced.
General manager of Morocco's national agency of telecom regulation (ANRT), Mostafa Terrab, who met on Thursday in Dakar with Senegalese president, Abdoulay Wade, said under this cooperation Morocco, which adopted a new law on telecom in 1997, will provide counseling to the Senegalese authorities who are planning to craft a new law on telecommunications and set up a regulation authority.
Morocco will also help Senegal identify rules for the sector liberalization, conditions for the opening of a new mobile phone license and for enlarging the privatization of its telecom company, explained Terrab who was member of the delegation who accompanied king Mohammed VI in his official visit to Senegal (May 22-23).
A group of executives for the projected structure will be trained in ANRT next September, he announced recalling that cooperation between Morocco and Senegal was launched during president Wade's visit to Morocco last year.
