Iraq, Syria for boosting trade, economic relations

Syrian minister of economy and foreign trade Muhammad al-Imadi on Tuesday in Baghdad announced that Syria and Iraq are discussing in meetings of the third session of the joint Syrian- Iraqi committee trade and economic relations between the two states.
In a celebration held to mark the opening of the first session of the meetings of the committee, the Syrian minister made it clear that the meetings will deal with liberating the capitals' movements, setting up joint projects as well as other issues that aim at revitalizing the mechanism of the free trade zone agreement between Syria and Iraq.
The Iraqi minister Muhammad Mahdi Saleh, on the other hand, stressed Iraq's desire on giving the Arab states top priority in their economic and trade dealing relations.
He indicated that the free trade agreement signed between Syria and Iraq is the first which has been implemented in its complete formula in the Arab homeland.
Meantime, five sub- committee were formed in charge of discussing cooperation in all fields. Syria and Iraq signed the free trade zone agreement during the visit made by the Iraqi vice President Taha Yassin Ramadan to see in January of this year.
