Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak praises the development of intellectual education schools
Egypt, Education, 5/22/2001
Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak, who chairs the Integrated Care Society, Sunday inspected the School for children of special needs at Old Cairo to see on the spot the progress made in developing schools of such kinds and to evaluate the experiment one year after it was started.
The School is one of five schools sponsored by the Integrated Care Society to be developed in Cairo governorate (which includes other 27 schools) as a first stage.
Mrs. Mubarak said she had noticed a tangible progress in the field of looking after children with special needs through the development of schools sponsored by the Integrated Care Society which has been carried out on a sound scientific basis, new ideas and a modern approach and philosophy in dealing with children with special needs.
Mrs. Mubarak said that the progress realized in the development of intellectual education schools included the family in the development process as an active partner, which makes it easier to deal with children with special needs at school and within the family in addition to providing all the needs for the children.
As part of the development process, a programme was carried out to train teachers and those who deal with children with special needs at schools of such kind in Cairo governorate.
Education is not the responsibility of the entire society with all its sectors.
She pointed out that five Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) had participated with the Integrated Care Society in developing schools for children with special needs.
At the end of the inspection tour Sunday, Mrs. Mubarak attended a sports festival in which 150 children from the five schools which have been developed took part.
Mrs. Mubarak said that following the success of the first stage of development which included five schools, the experiment will be expanded.
Another five schools will be chosen and developed in collaboration between the Integrated Care Society, Cairo Governorate and the authorities concerned.
