Morocco, Local, 5/21/2001

Morocco was picked to chair the African affairs standing commission of the world federation of former resisters, which met this May 14-17 in Abuja (Nigeria).

Out of 13 resolutions adopted by the commission, nine were submitted by Morocco. One of the resolutions calls for the respect of territorial integrity of African countries and recommends to member associations to endeavor with their governments and other social and political organizations to respect this principle.

Another text dealing with the continuation of the process to end colonization considers that Sebta, Melilia and neighboring presidios are historically, geographically and culturally Moroccan territory subjected to Spain's military occupation.

Moroccan high commissioner for former resisters and liberation war veterans, Mustapha El Ktiri, thanked the African member countries of the Federation for choosing Morocco to chair the commission.
