King Abdullah in Kuwait

Jordanian King Abdullah II on Sunday started an official visit to Kuwait. Well-informed sources said that this visit aims at strengthening relations between the two states, rather than relating to a mediation role the recent Amman's summit commissioned the Jordanian King to make between Kuwait and Baghdad.

Local Kuwaiti dailies said that the schedule of the visit including King Abdullah's spontaneous and direct meetings with Kuwaiti citizens.

A matter which emphasizes the normalization aspect of the visit, which is the second for the Jordanian King following his first visit which was in September 1999, which then resulted in restoring back official relations between the two countries after a cessation started with the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990.

However, on Friday, the Jordanian King told the Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Am that his this second visit to Kuwait was scheduled before the convening of the summit and does not fall in the frame of mediation, ( in being commissioned by the Arab league.)

The Jordanian King added " the case between Kuwait and Iraq is an important matter and we hope to reach a solution on the ground of it in preparations for a clear future relations, based on respecting the other and his rights."

The Jordanian King will hold talks with the ruler of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah and his visit's agenda includes meetings with economists and businessmen. He will also inspect Kuwaiti military units especially contingent 35 in the desert to the west of Kuwait. He will also visit several people's forums.
