Al-Assad to meet with Junblat
Syria-Lebanon, Politics, 5/21/2001

A well-informed Syrian source told the London- based al-Sharq al-Awsat daily issued on Saturday that President Bashar al-Assad may meet with member of the Lebanese parliament Walid Junblat during a very short coming phase, at an urgent request submitted by the latter and in response to several mediations held by those close to Junblat and friends to Syria in order to arrange this meeting.

The source announced that the chairman of the reconnaissance department in the Syrian forces working in Lebanon. Lt. Gen. Ghazi Kanaan informed Junblat about the consent of the Syrian leadership of his request and that this meeting to be defined later and that the forthcoming meeting comes in the framework of meetings President al-Assad holds with Lebanese political figures and leaderships.

Al-Sharq al-Awsat said that President al-Assad will meet with several Lebanese political figures during the coming phase.
